Right-to-die case triggers Italian crisis

ROME - Italy's government issued an emergency decree Friday to prevent a woman in a vegetative state from having her feeding tubes disconnected, but the president immediately said he wouldn't sign it.
As a result, the woman's family vowed to go ahead and disconnect the tubes, and her nutritional intake was being reduced in preparation.
President Giorgio Napolitano said the government decree was unconstitutional since it violated the "fundamental" separation of powers between the executive and judicial branches. He said it defied court rulings that have favored removing Eluana Englaro's feeding tubes.
President refuses to sign decree to block hospital from removing tubes. Eluana Englaro was moved to a clinic in northern Italy that agreed to gradually stop feeding her. The transfer set off a firestorm, with appeals from anti-euthanasia groups and Catholic Church officials to keep her alive.
main point: Italy does not allow euthanasia. Patients have a right to refuse treatment, but there is no law that allows them to give advance directions on what treatment they wish to receive if they become unconscious.
Shocking news for Euthanasia... we're talking about....

Studies in the 1990s found that 15 to 20 such babies were probably euthanized illegally each year in the Netherlands, a country of 16 million people. Doctors were hardly ever prosecuted because authorities were reluctant to press charges in a country where euthanasia has been widely accepted as ethical.

Ning, Twitter and MySpace Attacked
Post on 1 April

Hundreds of Ning social networks including mine, Outside the Box and Let’s Follow Each Other, were attacked over the past week by “free ringtones” spam. Bogus users popped up everywhere and posted their free ringtones spam on as many member profiles as they could.
Network creators and administrators reacted by changing their site settings to require new member approval. This measure has stopped the free ringtones girl but not without some ongoing inconvenience to both administrators and would-be site members.
Similar spam outbreaks occur frequently on Twitter and MySpace where no simple solution is yet in sight.
