OB
OB Extinction examples

A and B talk excessively in class that it disrupts the class. The teacher stops the talking by sending A out of the class. Thus, this is an example of extinction.

Why?
Cuz the teacher is removing the cause (at the students' enjoyable session expense) that causes undesirable behaviour.

I'm your OB teacher.

For people researching on Euthanasia...
Right-to-die case triggers Italian crisis
Feb. 6, 2009
link: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29057288/

ROME - Italy's government issued an emergency decree Friday to prevent a woman in a vegetative state from having her feeding tubes disconnected, but the president immediately said he wouldn't sign it.
As a result, the woman's family vowed to go ahead and disconnect the tubes, and her nutritional intake was being reduced in preparation.
President Giorgio Napolitano said the government decree was unconstitutional since it violated the "fundamental" separation of powers between the executive and judicial branches. He said it defied court rulings that have favored removing Eluana Englaro's feeding tubes.
President refuses to sign decree to block hospital from removing tubes. Eluana Englaro was moved to a clinic in northern Italy that agreed to gradually stop feeding her. The transfer set off a firestorm, with appeals from anti-euthanasia groups and Catholic Church officials to keep her alive.

main point: Italy does not allow euthanasia. Patients have a right to refuse treatment, but there is no law that allows them to give advance directions on what treatment they wish to receive if they become unconscious.

Shocking news for Euthanasia... we're talking about....
1) Associated Press Nov. 14, 2008
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27721096/

Studies in the 1990s found that 15 to 20 such babies were probably euthanized illegally each year in the Netherlands, a country of 16 million people. Doctors were hardly ever prosecuted because authorities were reluctant to press charges in a country where euthanasia has been widely accepted as ethical.

2) Italy rules dad can end daughter’s life support Nov. 13, 2008

Anyone doing online social networking? Here's some information for you... :]
Ning, Twitter and MySpace Attacked
Post on 1 April

link: http://online-social-networking.com/

Hundreds of Ning social networks including mine, Outside the Box and Let’s Follow Each Other, were attacked over the past week by “free ringtones” spam. Bogus users popped up everywhere and posted their free ringtones spam on as many member profiles as they could.
Network creators and administrators reacted by changing their site settings to require new member approval. This measure has stopped the free ringtones girl but not without some ongoing inconvenience to both administrators and would-be site members.

Similar spam outbreaks occur frequently on Twitter and MySpace where no simple solution is yet in sight.

For BA tut today, we went through tut 3 and did one class work assignment...

Please read up the Group Project and its task specifications =]

Organisational Behaviour-Personality

Not sure the link can get you a free assessment: http://www.testsonthenet.com/DISC/disc-infoold.htm (fyi, she did not have a chance to test on this site herself, if anyone of you manage to have the free DISC assessment via this site, please let Miss Tan know. Thanks)
However, she will be trying to ‘dig’ out her old DISC & MBTI instruments (if she can find) and let us have them the next time when we see each other- next Monday.
Nevertheless, the followings are for your knowledge:

DISC

DiSC is a model of human behavior that helps to understand "why people do what they do." The dimensions of Dominance, influencing, Steadiness, and Conscientiousness make up the model and interact with other factors to describe human behavior.

Each of us has developed a distinct way of thinking, feeling and acting which becomes our behavioral style. Our unique patterns distinguish us from one another, and express our individual identities just like our thumbprint. Each DiSC style has great strengths, and potential limitations if overused.

Dominance

Influence

Effective Traits:
Direct, Self Assured, Gets Results
When overused may become:

Dictatorial, Demanding, Sarcastic

Effective Traits:
People Oriented, Persuasive
When overused may become:
Talks too much, Lacks Focus, Exaggerates

Conscientiousness

Steadiness

Effective Traits:
Accurate, Detail Oriented
When overused may become:
Perfectionist, Overly Critical, Aloof

Effective Traits:
Listener, Loyal, Consistent
When overused may become:
Indecisive, resists change, Passive

DiSC provides individuals with valuable feedback information that will enhance personal and professional effectiveness. Become "people smart" - by learning to understand yourself and others better. The true essence of DiSC is learning about behavioral diversity and Emotional Intelligence. Individuals can learn to adapt their behavior, and move from judging those who are different from themselves to honoring, valuing and respecting others.

http://www.discprofile.com/whatisdisc.htm

MBTI

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is a self-report questionnaire designed to make Jung's theory of psychological types understandable and useful in everyday life. MBTI results identify valuable differences between normal, healthy people, differences that can be the source of much misunderstanding and miscommunication. Taking the MBTI inventory and receiving feedback will enhance your own understanding and self-awareness. It will also help you appreciate people who differ from you. Understanding your MBTI type is self-affirming and encourages cooperation with others.

Perception: People's behaviour is based on their perception of what reality is, not reality itself.

I believe that most recipes for butter cookies would have almost the same ingredients so Yvonne has kindly helped the Admin to find the recipe but the Admin hasn't received it so the Admin would post the ingredients for the recipe the Admin found. Once Yvonne sends the recipe, the admin would change the recipe (:

CNN Day
Temp Butter Biscuit Recipe

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon table salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 pound (1 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature
1 cup packed light-brown sugar
1 large egg
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 cup smooth peanut butter (use KRAFT? )
*Optional add 1/4 cup granulated sugar

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silpat.
  2. Sift together flour, salt and baking soda, and set aside. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat together butter and sugar on medium speed until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla, and beat until well combined. Add peanut butter, and beat until smooth. Add flour mixture, and beat on low until combined.
  3. Form each cookie into a ball using about a tablespoon of dough. Place cookies on the prepared baking sheets, about 1 inch apart. Place cookie sheet in freezer for about 10-15 minutes to chill. If they stay in the freezer too long they will be hard to flatten, so place them in the oven for a few minutes, and then take them out to press them.
  4. Remove from freeze and flatten them slightly with your palm or the bottom of a cup or spoon. Then dip a fork into flour, and tap off excess. Press fork slightly into the cookies to make a decorative top.
  5. Bake until golden, about 15 minutes. Check and if needed, bake about 5 minutes longer. Remove from oven, and place on a wire rack until completely cooled.
or

Chocolate Caramel Cookie Bites
Adapted from Smitten Kitchen’s Brownie Roll-Out Cookies

3 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa*
1 bag of caramels, unwrapped
1/2 cup raw or turbinado sugar (for rolling)

Directions:

- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Whisk dry flour, salt and baking powder in bowl and set aside.
- Mix butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla and cocoa in mixer. Gradually add flour mixture, and mix until smooth.
- Wrap dough ball in plastic and chill for at least one hour.
- Roll out cookie dough on floured counter. Cut into roughly 1 1/2 - 2 inch diameter circles or squares (the shape and precision of the cut section doesn’t really matter since you will be wrapping it around the caramel anyway), brushing extra deposits of flour off the top.
- Roll the dough around an unwrapped caramel. Roll the dough back and forth in your hands until it forms a smooth ball.
- Roll the ball in a bowl of raw or turbinado sugar, pressing slightly to coat with sugar.
- Bake on a parchment-lined baking sheet for 10-12 minutes until the cookies are firm.
- Transfer to a wire rack to cool.

* I used regular old Hershey’s cocoa (I thought it would be most appropriate since Milk Duds are a Hershey’s product) but feel free to substitute a higher quality chocolate if you have it. I’m sure it would just add to the intensity of the chocolate flavor.

Note: These are best served fresh from the oven or slightly reheated (a quick zap in the microwave will do the trick). This warms the caramel up, making it gooey and delicious. Served at room temperature they are still yummy but the caramels are chewier.

Cost for Ingredients if getting from NTUC

Prima Plain Flour 1kg: $2.25
SIS Caster Sugar 1kg: $2.30
